This new work began its process at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in April of 2023. This work revolves around air and it’s capacity to inform movement. Darkside of the Rainbow redefines social dynamics through immersive fusion of movement, sound, and space. This groundbreaking performance intricately weaves elements of air, dance, architecture, and culture, transcending convention. Deliberate fog disorients, dissolving boundaries, revealing societal constructs. Participants embrace a shared 'under common', a collective otherness.

Choreography unfolds in an architectural environment by pneu.haus, blurring performance space and audience. Performers break passive observation, creating a parallactic interaction. Lattice structures, reliant on surrounding air, mirror social dynamics. Fusion of body and architecture challenges stability, explored by performers. Live video feed enriches viewer engagement, offering multi-dimensional perspectives.

Evolution of lighting in color and tone shapes narrative, immersing bodies in visible light spectrum. Musicians Wesley Allen Simpson and Jon Aro create evocative soundscapes, challenging norms. Sound timbre pushes auditory boundaries, shaping space and perception. Sonic tapestry becomes narrative cornerstone.

Darkside of the Rainbow transcends performance, challenging interaction norms. It blurs lines between performer, spectator, architecture, and sound. This transformative journey leaves an indelible imprint on all who experience it."

Very Subtly is a elegant sophisticated ballet in progress, conceived during a transformative residency with the esteemed American Ballet Theater in April 2022. In this creative endeavor, I chose to embrace the ballet language, recognizing its profound historical significance that has endured across centuries and cultural shifts. It is a form that carries within it learned histories, a testament to its enduring power in the face of evolving human landscapes. Acknowledging the complex relationship with imperialism embedded within these dancing forms, I sought to breathe new life into them, embodying their essence in this innovative work.

As the dancers under my direction gracefully glide through space, their movements seamlessly reverse paths of coordination, creating a captivating visual narrative. This introspective journey allows them to glimpse inward, emerging in a state of deconstructed precision. They soar aloft, executing each movement with rigorous ease, all while being enveloped by the evocative melodies of Strayhorn's music.

Very Subtly is a testament to the profound symbiosis between history, movement, and music, a testament to my belief in the enduring power of this art form. It is a bold exploration of how these elements converge to create an experience that transcends time and culture. This ballet is an embodiment of my artistic vision, seamlessly weaving together the threads of tradition and contemporary perspective, resulting in a performance that is at once evocative, mesmerizing, and deeply resonant.
